What's Worn

What's Worn Privacy Policy

WHO WE ARE

This Privacy Policy explains how What's Worn ("we", "us", "our") handles your personal information when you visit whatsworn.com (the "Site"). "You" and "your" refer to the person visiting the Site.

What's Worn is an independent informational website. We do not operate an online store, we do not sell products, and we do not have user accounts. If that is the most important thing to know from this policy, it is this: we are not collecting the information that a shop would collect, because we are not a shop.

This policy is written under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), including the Australian Privacy Principles. We aim to be transparent about what happens to your information, and we have kept this policy short because the reality is simple.

THE SHORT VERSION

  • We do not ask you to create an account, and we do not ask for personal details to browse the Site.
  • We have no shopping cart, no checkout, no payment forms and no order history, because we do not sell anything.
  • We set no first-party cookies and store nothing in your browser beyond ordinary cached files. We do not use local or session storage to identify you.
  • We use Google Tag Manager and Google Analytics to measure how the Site is used, and Klaviyo to run our email newsletter. These are the only two third parties that receive your data while you browse.
  • If you click a link to a retailer, that retailer receives the referral and handles your data under its own privacy policy, not this one.
  • We do not sell your personal information to anyone, for any purpose.

INFORMATION COLLECTED AUTOMATICALLY

Server logs. Like any website, our hosting provider records technical information when you request a page, in order to deliver it, keep the site secure and diagnose faults. This typically includes your IP address, the date and time of the request, the page or file requested, your browser and device type, and the referring page. This information is used for security and operations. It is not used to build a profile of you, and it is not combined with anything else.

No accounts, no forms. The Site has no login, no registration, no user accounts, no comments, no reviews and no purchasing. If you use the site search, that search runs entirely in your own browser: the Site downloads a single static index file and matches your query locally. Your search terms are never sent to us or to any third party.

Email you send us. If you email us — for a correction, a business enquiry, or support — we hold your email address and the contents of your message, and we use it to reply. We do not add you to a marketing list just because you emailed us, and we do not sell or share your message with anyone.

ANALYTICS

We use Google Tag Manager to load Google Analytics, which tells us how many people visit the Site, which pages are read, where visitors come from and what device they use. This helps us decide what to write about and fix things that are broken.

This means Google may collect your IP address, device and browser identifiers, and approximate location derived from your IP address, together with the pages you view. We use this data in aggregate to understand overall usage. We do not use it to identify you personally, and we do not build advertising profiles from it.

Google may use the data to provide and improve its own services, subject to its own privacy terms. For information on how Google handles data from sites that use its services, see Google's privacy page.

EMAIL NEWSLETTER

We use Klaviyo to run our email newsletter and, from time to time, to tell people about new articles and features.

If you subscribe, Klaviyo collects your email address, and the fact that you subscribed, along with the engagement metrics for the emails we send you (whether an email was delivered, opened or clicked). We use this to send you the newsletter and to understand whether it is useful. Every email we send contains an unsubscribe link, and you can unsubscribe at any time; we will then stop sending you marketing email.

We will not add you to a marketing list without your consent, and we do not buy, rent or trade email lists.

COOKIES

The Site sets no cookies of its own and does not store anything in your browser beyond standard cached files. The cookies and similar identifiers on the Site are set by the third parties below:

| Provider | Purpose | Category | | --- | --- | --- | | Google (Tag Manager / Analytics) | Analytics, site usage measurement | Analytics | | Klaviyo | Newsletter subscription and email engagement | Functional / marketing |

THIRD-PARTY CONTENT AND OUTBOUND LINKS

The Site displays images and other media served from our content delivery network at cdn.whatsworn.com, and loading those files means that host sees your IP address and browser, as any host delivering a file does.

The Site also contains links to retailers and brands. When you click one of these links you leave the Site, and from that point the retailer handles your data under its own privacy policy, not this one. We have no control over what a retailer does once you reach it, and we do not receive any personal information you give a retailer — only an anonymous report that a referral link was clicked. Please read the retailer's privacy policy before providing your details to them.

Some pages also link to social media platforms (Instagram, Linkedin and X), and loading content from those platforms is subject to their privacy policies. Our social media links open in a new tab and are not embedded on the Site.

HOW WE USE YOUR INFORMATION

We collect and use personal information only for these purposes:

  • To deliver the Site and keep it available, fast and secure.
  • To measure aggregate usage so we know what to write about and what to fix.
  • To send you the newsletter, if you have asked for it.
  • To reply to you if you contact us.
  • To correct inaccurate content when you tell us about it.
  • To comply with our legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Use.

We do not use your information for automated decision-making, and we do not build profiles of you.

DISCLOSURE

We do not sell, rent or trade your personal information. We do not share it for anyone else's marketing.

We disclose personal information only in these limited circumstances:

  • To service providers who help us run the Site — our hosting provider, our content delivery network, Google for analytics, and Klaviyo for email. Each of them receives only the information needed to do their job.
  • If we're legally required to. Where we are required by law or a court or regulator to disclose information, we will do so only to the extent required.
  • In connection with a sale or transfer of the business, in which case we will tell you before your information is transferred.

OVERSEAS

Some of the service providers above store or process information outside Australia, including in the United States. When we send personal information overseas, we do so in accordance with the Australian Privacy Principles, which permit this where the recipient is subject to comparable privacy obligations or where other permitted circumstances apply.

SECURITY

All traffic to the Site is encrypted in transit using HTTPS. Access to the analytics and email systems is restricted to people who need it for their role. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we take reasonable steps and do not hold sensitive personal information.

We keep personal information only as long as it is needed for the purposes described in this policy, or as required by law.

CHILDREN

The Site is aimed at adults interested in professional sport and sporting footwear. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

ACCESS AND CORRECTION

Under the Australian Privacy Principles you have the right to ask us to correct personal information we hold about you, and to ask for a copy of that information. You can also ask us to stop using or disclose it in the way we have described.

In practice, most of the data linked to you is held by Google or Klaviyo rather than by us, and we have no user accounts, so there is usually nothing on file to access. But if you would like to know what we do hold, or you want something corrected or deleted, email us and we will help.

We will respond to a request within a reasonable period, and generally within 30 days. We may need to verify your identity before we can release information.

COMPLAINTS

If you have a privacy concern, please email us first — we would rather fix it than argue about it. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner:
